Church History

Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church was founded in 1938, by a small band of neighbors who came together and decided to organize a Primitive Baptist Church in the Liberty City area. They started by holding prayer meetings at the home of Deacon and Sister A. Silles. The founders were: Sister Emma Allen, Mother M. Edith, Sister Lula Staley, Sister Carrie Jackson, Sister Ruby Powell, and Brother Isaac Clark. A few months later, the church was organized and named Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Mosely. Elder M.L. Vaughn, Elder T.E. Davenport, Deacon A. Silles, and Deacon Theodore Hamilton.

The first pastor of the church was Elder Mosely. It was during his ministry that the present site was purchased and a tent was erected. In 1940, Elder M.C. Gallon was called to pastor. Under his leadership, a small wooden church was built on the present lot. In 1947, Elder E.S. Henry was called to pastor. He had served faithfully as pastor for twenty-five years.

On June 12, 1981, Elder Frazier Arnold, Jr. was called to pastor Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church. He was installed as pastor on August 30, 1981, by Elder S.P. Kilpatrick, Moderator of the East Florida District Association. Under Elder Arnold’s leadership and the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the church has continued to grow and prosper. Many new Ministries have been developed to continue to meet the needs of both the congregation and the community.

Motivated by God, Elder Arnold had a vision of building a new and larger church that would better serve the needs of the congregation and the community. Following. Elder Arnold and the Mount Olives Primitive Baptist Church family saw the dream fulfilled when the new sanctuary was dedicated on the twenty-ninth day of May in the year of our Lord Nineteen Hundred and Ninety-three. Since that time the church has been able to purchase additional property, including the Fellowship Hall located at 6908 N.W. 15th Avenue. On June 24th, 2001, the first Educational Scholarship was given. Since that time many of our youth and adult members have received assistance as they pursue their educational goals. As the church continues to follow the mission of Christ to spread His gospel throughout the world, we continue to trust God and believe in our hearts that if we; “Walk by faith, and not by sight,” Christ will continue to bless His people
